Innovative Audio Technology
With an innovative Fresh Air structure, the subwoofer’s port is vented outside the car cabin and the entire cabin is treated as a giant enclosure, thus allowing a reduction of speaker size by as much as 80%. It also enables a ten-fold increase in sound pressure in the ultra-low frequency range, reproducing sounds below 60Hz that regular subwoofers cannot match.
FAS Speaker Systems
The ideal system is a combination of two Fresh Air speakers. The first acts as a woofer and can operate effectively up to175Hz. It is located in the plenum and radiates under the dashboard section of the vehicle and replaces the door woofers. The second acts as a sub-woofer and operates between 15-50Hz. It is optimally located at the rear of the vehicle (wheel well (best) or trunk). The overall result is an even wave propagation throughout the vehicle compared to a conventional door speaker system which experience phase cancellations usually between 120 and 180Hz (for both driver and passenger).

The first video compares the wave propagation and sound pressure level (SPL) of traditional door speakers with those of the Fresh Air Woofer (FAW). Traditional door speakers experience reduced SPL around 130 Hz due to phase cancellation in the car cabin which cancellation is avoided with the use of an FAW.
The second video compares the wave propagation and SPL of a traditional sub-woofer installed at the rear of the vehicle with the wave propagation and SPL of the sub-woofer – FAW system. It shows that the sub-woofer would experience a reduced SPL at around 60 Hz due to phase cancellation in the car cabin. This loss can be overcome when a sub-woofer is combined with an FAW to deliver full range high quality audio.
Noise Cancellation
The Fresh Air technology has also been applied to active noise cancellation, operating to reduce or eliminate road noise in the vehicle cabin, especially low frequency noise in the 10-150 Hz frequency range. This makes it a very dynamic and versatile technology and it has been licensed to Tier 1 and 2 audio suppliers to the global automotive manufacturers.
